YD 0 The Teachers arrive
The apkallu emerge from the Mor Dyfn to teach the iaret engineering and begin their long history of friendship and cooperation.

YD 1050 Star falls on Mor Dyfn and pierces Apsu’s breast
The continent in the ocean is destroyed by a falling star, leaving only the Wandering Islands.  Kato Ophios and the coastline of the Sea of Riches are devastated and will not recover for a thousand years.

YD 2100 Suzerainty dynastic succession begins

The First Dynast, a powerful spellcaster, unites the cities of Akhet by diplomacy and force and decrees that the laws of the gods shall be followed throughout the dominion of the iaret.

YD 2900 The Jewel Cities are founded
The Suzerainty banishes the pelagic horrors raised by the Star that pierced Apsu’s breast and brings peace to the northern shores of the Sea of Riches.

YD 3590 Keltokel is founded
Iaret explorers beyond the Sea of Riches build a new city atop the ruins they discover at Keltokel.

YD 4100 Humans are discovered in western steppes.
The newly discovered race is nomadic, with teeming tribes roaming the almost endless plains, and have begun to spread throughout the south.

YD 4850 The Southern Horizon
The Utter Ice marks the extent of the Suzerainty’s expansion to the south.  Iaret have widely colonized the region, bringing civilization with them under the rule of satraps appointed by the Suzerain.

YD 5300 The Great Khet
Magical firestorms sweep the length of the western steppes, burning them to ash.  Terrible winters follow as the sun is obscured by ashes.  Countless humans perish in fire, frost, and starvation.  A neverending sheet of fire known as the Conflagration, reaching to the sky, burns forever in the distant west.

YD 5720 Wars in the south
An adherent of the dark Zeelite faith ascends to the Dynast’s throne.  The court of the Suzerain is moved to Zeel.  Wars and persecutions between the iaret satrapies in the south are fomented to amuse the increasingly decadent nobility in the north and feed their sacrificial altars.

YD 5900 The Folly is cast
A cabal of iaret magi casts the Formulary of the Horizon’s Bulwark to protect the province of Bracken from the creeping expansion of the ash wastes that were once the western steppes.  The spell is not maintained and becomes known as the Folly.

YD 6050 The Retreat
The Zeelite court ends, and a new Dynast returns the Suzerain’s throne to Amarnec.  The Suzerainty grows ever weaker, sapped by the wars in the south, and governed by foolish and torpid nobility.  The satrapies of the south are left to govern themselves.

YD 6105 The Keizai treaties written
Without the military might of the Suzerain’s Strong Arms, the south is under constant threat of invasion of starving barbarians from the ash wastes.  The bandits of the Keizai mountains are encouraged to guard the mountain passes to end the invasions.

YD 6300 Baltine nations rise
Slowly the satraps of the south are replaced with human kingships.  Regional cultures evolve away from the roots of the iaret colonies.

YD 6550 Baltine Troubles
Wars between the kingships destroy much of the inherited infrastructure the iaret left behind.  The Keizai treaties begin to weaken and the threat of invasion from the ash wastes looms again.

YD 6580 Alliance of Baltine states formed
The kingship of Baltheim becomes strong enough to impose an alliance on the other southern states.  They agree upon mutual defense against the barbarians of the wastes, under the governance of a high king.

YD 6640 The Assemblage of Khalq is declared
In the ash wastes, a new philosophy unites the barbarian tribes.  Based on the will of the masses, the gifts of survival and the rejection of bitter want, a new invasion force is built, more organized than ever before.

YD 6700 War of Mountain Passes
The Keizai Princes defeat a massive Khalqist invasion, buying time for the Baltine states to reinforce the mountain passes.

YD 6705 Keizai treaties re-affirmed as buffer zone
The successful war reinvigorates the ancient treaty and cements the agreement between the myriad princedoms and the Baltine states.  The threat of Khalqist invasion is banished for generations.

YD 6830 1st Mercantile War

A trade war between the Baltine states and the Jewel Cities explodes into all-out conflict.  The Alliance of Baltine States cannot form a unified military strategy and teeters on the brink of civil war.

YD 6850 Polto formed by treaty
The war reaches a costly and inconclusive end.  The Alliance of Baltine States surrenders the land comprising Polto as a neutral buffer state between the Jewel Cities and the southern nations.  The Alliance dissolves as revolutions overthrow the crippled kingships.

YD 6860 Free States of Balt formed
New democratic governments rise to replace the kingships.  Through compromise and diplomacy Baltheim again leads the formation of a regional government.  This new federation is composed of representatives of each state.

YD 6890 Tide Kingdoms form
With the Baltine states preoccupied with internal struggles, piracy runs so rampant on their eastern coast that fleets of pirate warships form under charismatic leadership.  Bases of operation on jagged seamounts will later prove impossible for the Baltine navy to dislodge.

YD 6920 2nd Mercantile War
Rising tension between the Assemblage of Khalq and the Free States of Balt bursts into war.  The war soon encompasses other nations as they insert themselves seeking advantage or are drawn into shifting alliances.  Despite much destruction and suffering, few participants can claim benefit from the conflict.

YD 6930 Dovenhead becomes independent from Balt
The lack of an overland route, the constant pressure of piracy, and the weakness of the Free States following the 2nd Mercantile War lead to Dovenhead becoming independent.

YD 6950 Last of Baltine states unified
Far Soneka becomes the last Baltine state to achieve representation in the national Diet.

YD 6983 The Gate War
Dimensional gates hidden within the Stone in Keltokel open and disgorge the invading armies of the soldati.  Keltokel falls immediately, and the soldati sweep south, seeming unstoppable.

YD 6985 Appearance of Tylwyth
Strange beings begin to appear and aid the allied forces of Geb against the invaders.  The tylwyth claim to have been sent by their mysterious rulers in accordance with ancient treaties.  The soldati are first stalemated, then driven back towards Keltokel.

YD 6993 The Spasm
Keltokel falls to the allied armies and the gates are destroyed, severing the soldati armies from their homeworld.  Instead of peace, however, the allied armies fall on each other in mad, destructive frenzy, each trying to cripple the other.  This conflict lasts almost a year and is concluded by the Treaty of Means and Endings.

YD 6994 Child Dynast ascends Suzerainty and Hierophant assumes regency
The aged Dynast of the Suzerainty of Akhet dies with an infant as his only heir.  His adult children had been wiped out by the Gate War and a series of mysterious accidents.  The Hierophant set about building up the power of the priesthood, with the Child Dynast only a figurehead.

YD 6996 The Polto Plagues
Polto was a battleground during the Gate War and magical weapons were loosed there with careless abandon.  The nation is now riddled with afflictions both natural and magical.  Of particular danger are outbreaks of zombies, emerging from isolated villages.  Trade through the once thriving nation has all but ceased.
