From the Teachings of Apsu Invisible Pelagic Sutta All that has come, is coming, will come again. It is contained within the mind of Apsu. While mortals crawl upon the body of Geb, Apsu dreams another ocean. As a man swims, he sees the currents ahead. He sees the shark that hunts. He may turn his course. If a man looks behind he sees the waters he has traversed. He sees the shark that follows. He may hurry his ways. Are not the waters one and the same, surrounding him at all times? I say to you so is the shark. The deeds of a man, too, stretch forward and back. He eluded, eludes, will elude the shark. He was caught, is caught, will be caught by the shark. It is contained within the mind of Apsu. Meditate upon this. Commentary of Buriash Rinpoche The shark: if by hurrying one’s way, does one speed into the waiting jaws? If by turning one’s course, does one turn toward the yet unseen shark? One both eludes and is caught in all cases, and all cases are one and the same. Sugano Lama’s Sutta Emptiness is appropriate on all occasions. First and always the mind must be empty. Cast aside worldly desires and concerns for they hinder emptiness. A man may be taken by the threat which stoops from the sky. He will say, “this is not the shark! What can be done?” His mind was full of cares and he did not see. The empty mind takes all into itself and is enlightened. If all is one, all may be solved. Commentary of Buriash Rinpoche Seldom do the sutta address the surface. See how there is a threat from the sky. This auspice is significant and must be noted. Sutta of the Real The harpoon strikes one, it misses another. It misses one, it strikes another. Do not believe that these two are related. All things exist. The harpoon strikes both, it misses both. The man who rejoices that the danger has passed, he also is already dead. Commentary of Buriash Rinpoche Our eyes perceive one thing only, but all things happen all ways. How can one see all things but by knowing the mind of Apsu, which dreams the Other Ocean. Sutta of Cycles A lover will chase his paramour in a circle, but that circle is already complete. As the pursuit of Ash for Ranute, it has no beginning and no end. He who chases is in turn pursued. She who spurns is discarded in turn. All the world is governed in circles. Who can break free? Commentary of Buriash Rinpoche Thus it follows that the discarded will always return. The hand which discards and the discarded are in union, one does not exist without the other. This sutta proclaims the futility of escape. I ask, is there not power in embracing oneness? This is what must be sought: only through the embrace of oneness does one break free. |
