This story is true I’ll be the first to tell it but You’ll hear it everywhere It’s just that good There’s a town up the coast Where ships would dock It’s still there of course You can go any time From it came this fish She had scales of snow She had scales of sable She had scales of gold She was pretty yes But her voice was special She sang with joy She spoke with thunder In this town of hers Everyone loved her She had pretty boys but It was a little town The streets were quiet The people were happy The rulers were wise And that was very dull “There is a great story Just waiting somewhere Out there and I will sing it” That’s what she said She heard tell of a woman Full of secrets like Mother Mountain Open-handed like Father Cloud Strong like their daughter She traveled through snow With a secret letter And met boon companions Who sought the woman too A witch of water and darkness A god-touched lover of the woman A shrouded man so fine and strong These became her friends A glowing lantern lure A jar of lightning bolts A war machine of glass These would help her way But atop a caravan Upon a mountain tall This woman howled her last Fish and all fell with her The shrouded man’s kin Caught this fish and friends And Father Cloud’s snakes Brought them back to health Invader, oak, and rat She fought for the village And so it still stands You can go there, too When blue she met A plot in secret hatched But instead she treated With the red mountain lord His life safeguarded He entrusted this fish With his sickly daughter To find a cure for her By shrouded man’s spear Witch’s watery cunning And god-touched’s power This fish would sing their way To the City of Cities They came over mountains There finding cures And more mystery still Within the Stone however Friends would come to blows Over the power that The woman had sought The touch of a god Fell before this fish’s voice And the power was sent Across the northern sea Other struggles faced her Before she chased that too She traveled under mountains And freed a beautiful girl Then across the sea She sang a song of hers To charm mighty snakes And save a stolen sister She still had many tales Across the world and farther Always in the woman’s shadow You’ll hear this soon enough She was a happy one This fish up on land A true friend to all Even at cost and strife Many loves she had Blue and red and others Besides who could resist her Joyful voice and embrace Never did she covet Heartfelt wants of others Her kindness fostered love Between unexpected ones Still adventure calls and This gift for her half-told Must end for now We’ll pick it up later You’ve heard this fish’s tale Told by a beautiful girl so You know it can be trusted This story is true |
